Semi-Precious Jewelry
A gemstone or gem, also called a precious or
semi-precious stone, is a piece of attractive mineral, which — when cut and
polished — is used to make jewelry or other adornments. For the past several
hundred years, gemstones have been broken down into two categories; precious
and semi-precious. The origin of the gemstone does not affect its
categorization as precious or semi-precious. Rubies, sapphires and emeralds
are always precious stones, while other gems are considered semi-precious.
